Underline

'So I think there's a difference between feeling safe and feeling comfortable.'

Underline is a verbatim dance theatre piece that interrogates the complexities of comfort and discomfort for women on public transport.

The work explores the intersectional experiences of women and people from the Global Majority, with testimonies from individuals ranging between 5 – 60 in age. The choreography finds ways to disrupt and make difficult the telling of testimonies, physicalising the day-to-day difficulty women face finding ways to make themselves feel safe.

Performed at The Lock Festival, Camden Peoples Theatre, June 2017 and The Boilerhouse Theatre, Royal Holloway University, November 2016.

Created and Directed by Claire Leith and Sophie Escobar

Performed by Hamza Ali, Katie Austin, Eloise Baker, Cat Chong, Emma McComish, Anna Stanyon and Adam Yeomans.

Original Music by Sian Crucefix.
